Rugby

This page is devoted to one of my favorite sports. Rugby is a game not many understand and even I don't know all the various rules and regulations, but I do know that I love the game and the social life that precedes it. There are two parts to rugby that is very important to remember: The Game and Post Game Activities. It is crucial that you partake in both events in order to consider yourself a true rugby player. Enemies to begin with, but best friends in the end; every team you play will join you for a few beers after each game in a tradition that keeps the grudges on the field and the host team supplying a steady supply of free booze.

I have had the privilege to play for three very great teams with exceptional blokes and gents on both sides of the ball.

Villanova University Rugby Football Club

From freshman to senior year at Villanova, Saturdays were a great day for one particular reason- rugby. From the Crack House to Greenfield to Conshohocken to Watson's to Steve's to Bryn Mawr Glass to Erin's to the Courts - the drink ups were always a good time. S&M Man, I Wish All the Ladies, and Days of the Week would be sung without exception, boat races always challenged, golf balls always dropped, and even rookie olympics, the lift, or a game of spoons would be broken out on occasion. Road Trips being my favorite time of year - the Providence dance parties, the UNH late nights at Bickfords, the DC free Killians and Strip Bar, and keg tossin' and beirut games being played at the various other schools across the east coast will be hard to forget. Although much effort was put in to recognizing the team- the end result was a few slaps in the face. A few invites to the MARFU Championships that went unanswered were due to the rugby-hating elite of Villanova University and the future of Nova rugby will probably remain such until certain tyrants are removed from power. But, alas, time moves on. We played some good rugby with some great guys and came out of every Saturday with a bit of a headache and a few more stories, but more importantly - a good time.

This sexy group of guys help made the 2000 fall season one to remember with an incredible record of 6 and 1, which included two playoff wins and the EPRU championship game.

No one can stop me and my pulsating vein.

The boys get ready to knock some heads.

It's lineout time.

These are the boys for the 1999 season. Yes, I'm not original with my queer pose.

Macquarie University Beacons

My rugby experience in the good ole country of Oz was a fun time. Intimidated at first, I felt I held my own to the enormous beasts in the men's club league I played in. Starting it all off on a road trip to Coffs Harbour that included a 5 hour bus ride with a funnel out the door- the season was off to a good start. Playing 2-3 games every weekend got me a bit tired, but I managed to gut it through and eventually was awarded the prize of (ahem) Player's Player of the Year. Highlights: Pub Crawl, College Cup, Pre-Season Tour, and hangin' with Kensi, Jason, Archer, Roghan, Adam, Dan, Peaches, Noones, and the rest of the boys.

A line out against the Merrylands- my 3 inch vertical didn't help much in this instance.

A tough run with great determination- look at the fear in the opposition's eyes.

The Charles River Rugby Rats

This Boston men's club is a great group of guys and although we may not be the flashiest bunch of rugby players, we seem to put up a good challenge. A road trip down to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and numerous tournaments and games throughout the New England area leave to memory some tough play on and off the pitch. We are still stretching for that winning season to lead us to Division II Champs.

This is the gang after a trophy win in a Marshfield South Shore Tourney - such great uniforms
